You don’t have to be a wellness editor to live like one. But when we need a little healthy-living inspo (especially one month into our 2019 resolutions), we turn to our very own Food and Wellness Director, Lindsay Champion, who always looks like the picture of health (yes, even during cold and flu season). But, how? With the help of this simple, healthy morning ritual.

The first thing I do every morning? Whine for a few seconds and pull the covers over my head. Then I jump out of bed and across the room to turn off my alarm, which is connected to my white noise machine. I bought it for my husband a few years ago, and we both love it—it’s so soothing, it remains one of our most-used items in the house.

Next, I jump in the shower. My dermatologist recommended this face wash to me because I was hooked on benzoyl peroxide face washes from my teenage acne days. She told me it was way too drying for me, and I needed to stick with something more gentle. It’s visibly improved the texture of my skin, and minimizes the redness and oiliness I used to struggle with.

I went nuts with products from the Ordinary when they first launched, but only two have stuck around for the long haul. I have combination skin (read: an oil slick on my forehead, a desert around my nose and mouth), and nothing I’ve tried can even out my skin like Marine Hyaluronics, an algae-derived solution similar to hyaluronic acid. (Fair warning: It’s a little smelly, but well worth it.)

Another product from the Ordinary I swear by. I switched from moisturizing lotion to oils a few years ago and I’ll never go back. I’m over 30, so squalane oil is a must—our natural production of squalene declines as we age, and it’s a great way to give your skin a youthful boost.

I hate thick, greasy sunscreens, so I add a few drops of this super-concentrated, broad-spectrum sunscreen to my foundation (Bare Minerals BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation SPF 20, in case you were wondering) and keep sun damage at bay without any extra slathering.

I’m fairly new to probiotics (my digestion has always run like clockwork, and I didn’t see the point in taking a bunch of extra pills for no reason), but after hearing about the amazing benefits for years, I finally gave them a test drive and loved them. I’ve tried a bunch of different brands, but recently I’ve been using Physician’s Choice because they’re shelf-stable and I can bring them anywhere. (Oh, and they’re vegan—a huge plus for me).

In the wintertime, before I hop on the subway to go to work, I dab the inside of my scarf with peppermint essential oil. If I’m congested, I can always count on the bad air quality in the subway to launch me into a coughing fit. When I feel a tickle in my throat, I bury my face in my scarf and take a deep breath. Ta-da! All-natural Vicks Vaporub on the go.
