MHOW: An oil tanker filled with edible oil overturned near Tirla village on Indore-Ahmedabad highway on Sunday late night.
The tanker collided with stones on the roadside and many holes popped up on the tanker which started leaking oil as it overturned. The incident happened at about 3 am but the residents of Tirla and other nearby villages got information about the tanker in the morning.
As soon as the information was spread in the area, hundreds of people reached the spot with cans and buckets in their hands. They started filling their containers with the oil, emptying about two thousand litres of oil until police reached there and drove people away.
As per Tirla police station in charge Ranjit Singh Baghel, the driver and conductor were saved in the incident as its speed was very low. The driver informed the police about people taking away oil from the tanker, on which the police patrolling party was sent there to take the situation under control. He further said that the same company had sent another tanker in the afternoon, from which the remaining oil was transferred and then taken to the destination.
