WITH the year-end holidays approaching and interstate travel resuming, stores and malls in Penang are gearing up to lure shoppers and travellers by having attractive sales and promotions.
At Queensbay Mall in Persiaran Bayan Indah, stores have started displaying major discounts and offers along their display aisles.
At an aromatherapy store here, sales supervisor Jenn Teoh, 27, said they launched a variety of offers in conjunction with their 18th anniversary.
“We have a range of offers, such as gift boxes, value packages and discounts for certain purchases.
“We are selling one of our popular diffusers at 18% discount if customers spend above RM180 in a single receipt.
“As we have been closed for months, we need to look at ways to attract customers and get the customers to flow into the store once again,” she said when met on Saturday.
At a major clothing retailer here, a store supervisor who declined to be named, said they are selling most of their clothes at a discounted rate of 30% to 50%.
“This is our current promotion. Depending on the situation, we may change things.
“In mid-November, we are planning a ‘pay-three-get-five pieces’ offer for customers once interstate travel resumes as we are hoping for better business then,” she said.
At another gifts, hobbies and accessories store here, store assistant Yap Li Khong, 22, said they are seeing better sales since the reopening of the store but any promotions would depend on the demand once events or interstate travels are allowed.
“As we sell items which are mainly used for parties, decorations and events, we need to look at the overall situation.
“Once interstate travel resumes, we definitely will look at launching some promotions or offers,” he said.
Meanwhile, at Gurney Paragon Mall, marketing communications head Jasmine Tai said they are currently holding the ‘Halloween Treats’ event from Oct 1 to 31.
“We are running an event for shoppers where they can get a sticker by spending a minimum RM20 in a single receipt.
“For each four stickers they collect, they will be able to receive a spooky succulent plant and be in the running to win a range of prizes.
“There is a Facebook contest as well where shoppers are required to count the number of pumpkins in visuals across our Facebook site and eight lucky winners with the correct answers will be chosen,” she explained.
Prizes include a foot massager, organic cleansers, masks and vouchers among others.
