The govt of India is considering a proposal on curbing imports of edible oil in the country by boosting local oil seed production. 

Govt is considering to divert about 25% of the land of rice and wheat surplus from Northern India towards planting oil seeds in the country. 

The process currently is underway of identifying how many acres Of landed needed from Punjab and Haryana. 

About 14 million tonnes of edible oil is imported from different countries in India 

The total requirement of it in India is around 23 million. Currently, we are able to produce about 8 million tonnes.
