MORE than one in 10 workers in Warriewood and Mona Vale is employed in the health care industry.

The figure is likely to grow with the opening of a new private hospital in Warriewood this week and news that vitamin giant Blackmores is looking to expand its global headquarters.

Warriewood and parts of Mona Vale are fast becoming health hubs with hundreds of people working in health and wellness fields and dozens of jobs up for grabs.

On Tuesday an 85-bed hospital, Arcadia Pittwater, opened its doors with medical director Dr Harry Pannu saying the Daydream St facility would have the equivalent of 100 full-time jobs when fully operational.

“Our senior team has been hand-picked but as each stage is opened I can see us wanting drivers, people working in the cafe and nursing and allied health staff,” he said.

Arcadia Pittwater offers medical, geriatric, palliative and rehabilitation care, and was opened last weekend for public tours.

Some 300 people inspected the new facility and the first patients were welcomed on Tuesday, February 6.

Global wellness company Blackmores, located a few doors down in Warriewood, this week confirmed it has 400 staff working at its Daydream St campus, 300 of whom live locally.

And a company spokeswoman revealed it had plans to expand, following the purchase of a 4554sq m site at 15 Jubilee Ave, Warriewood.

The company is seeking a rezoning of the site and wants more office space to support the firm’s growth. It currently has six current job vacancies across a range of fields.

Meanwhile, Opal aged care announced in December it was adding 100 more aged care beds to its Seaside Centre in Garden St, Warriewood, spending $43 million on the expansion.

Other health and wellness employers include pharmaceutical company PharmaCare in Jubilee Ave and pharmaceutical and medical devices company Link Healthcare in Apollo St.

Warriewood Brook is a major Anglican retirement village.

There is also Anglicare’s Warriewood Brook aged care centre in Macpherson St and Mona Vale Public Hospital.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that the main employer for people living in Warriewood and Mona Vale is health care and social assistance, with 10.8 per cent of the population working in those sectors. Many of these people are able to walk to work, there are several beaches nearby on the ocean side and in Pittwater, and two major shopping and commercial areas.

Agent Aidan Wilcox, of Belle Property, said every second person in Warriewood seemed to work in the health and wellness sector, and many were also choosing to live in the popular suburb.

He had a four-bedroom house in Sydney Rd, Warriewood, that had 85 groups inspect it on the first open house. The four-bedroom home sold for more than $2 million, before it could get to auction.

Stevan Bubalo, of Novak Properties, said many Warriewood residents worked locally and people moved into Warriewood chasing local jobs.

“Warriewood has three arterial roads, it is very family focused and rezoning back in 2014 opened the doors to medium density,” he said.

There are a couple of new estates with houses and apartments coming to Warriewood.

The Ivy is a 29-lot estate of house blocks less than a kilometre from the beach with prices from $1,050,000. Nearby, Adela, in Bert Close comprises 14 townhouses and 66 units, due to be completed by mid-2019.

The Adela townhouses are priced at $1,395.000 and the apartments are from $805,000.

Currently there are 54 properties for sale in Warriewood, 41 units and townhouses and 13 houses.

According to CoreLogic RP Data the median house price in Warriewood is $1.67 million, the median unit price is $1.06 million and house prices have grown 92 per cent in five years.
