WAYNE, NJ — At this year’s Women’s Wellness Expo, TAPintoTV spoke with Lois Solomon, who has been fighting metastatic breast cancer. Solomon shared the story of her diagnosis and how she is managing this disease on a daily basis.
Solomon said the first symptom she noticed was a bad cough, and after visiting several doctors, she was diagnosed with pericarditis, which is fluid around the heart. She went for various tests, including a mammography with an ultrasound, which, Solomon said, “is the most important thing you can have.”
Solomon was originally told she had a very small growth, and underwent surgery, but a few weeks after her procedure, she fainted and was readmitted to the hospital. After undergoing more tests, her doctors informed her that she had Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The cough was evidence that the cancer had already spread to the chest and lymph nodes.

“This is going on for almost nine years” said Solomon. “I’ve gone from one trial to the next, one medication to the next, one chemo to the next, and that’s okay,” she said, “as long as they keep pulling their magic out of their pockets and making me well.”
Susan G. Komen North Jersey, the Passaic County Department of Health and the Board of Chosen Freeholders partnered to present the Women’s Wellness Expo, held at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, New Jersey.
The Women’s Wellness Expo featured free clinical breast exams, glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, HIV testing and BCAT cognitive screening, and other testing. The expo also offered medical presentations, exercise, fitness advice and demonstrations, nutrition guidance, and entertainment for the whole family.
