What is your take on the skincare industry today which is huge and has massive competition with so many international brands, local organic and natural beauty brands popping up?
I think the entire beauty industry is evolving into a nature-driven industry. There is a change in trend where people now believe that a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing can bring out the best in you. I had always believed in natural ingredients or natural beauty rather from the very beginning of my journey in the industry. So, I think whatever is happening right now is great both for the industry and customers.
Consumers are now aware of the things that are natural and beneficial for them. They have started to pick products or cosmetics that are natural and have no nasties in them. I feel it is amazing how people are inclining towards natural beauty. When the consumer becomes aware the brands also produce
How would you sum up your journey and how has life changed for you ever since you stepped into the industry?
Starting something new is not easy and I had decided to make a profession out of beauty which was a hobby in those days. Getting aromatherapy to India and making people understand, was difficult. I had to educate people about aromatherapy, how it not only works on your skin but on your mind & soul as well.
Initially, people were hesitant that the era was all about international products but once they started trying, they felt the difference. I remember a client coming back to me and asking I understand my skin feels better but how did my cold go away after the facial.
God has been kind and people have shown immense love towards Aroma Magic, we have ventured into so many product lines from what I started with. We are available in every city & state, e-commerce has taken the business to an entirely new level and I also believe people’s shift from chemical-based products to natural ingredient products has helped us a lot. With them becoming knowledgeable about natural beauty they have realised the importance of essential oils in their products even more.
Do you think that the beauty and skincare industry is in a way misunderstood by people who are not into it?
I feel some sections of society still see it as a hobby or not take this industry seriously but trust me it is not an easy industry. It has its share of challenges and yet it provides employment to more than 30% of the population of the country. Many households survive because of this industry and the beauty industry is a great contributor to the economy as well.
As a woman, has the struggle been tough for you at any point in time? Did you face obstacles at any level being the “weaker gender” in a society like ours?
I have been extremely lucky to have great support from my family, friends & peers. As a woman, we need to understand that things might be difficult for us in the beginning but if we set our mind on something then there is nothing we cannot do. Yes, I have been judged for my career choices not taken seriously but I love what I do and that has what kept me going.
There was not a single day where I thought of retracing my steps. I always wanted to do something for this industry and I believe somewhere I have made a difference. So all women need to do is identify your strength and weakness and make conscious efforts to lead your way forward towards growth.

When you felt low and down, what was that motto that kept you afloat?
I have always believed it is very important to love what you are doing. There are days when we don’t feel like doing anything but if you love what you do you will definitely find a way to do that thing. I am so happy with what I can do for my people, women, and children. I know I can make a difference in someone’s life and that is what keeps me going.
There is one thing that I do every day, I get up in the morning and look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘I love you Blossom, you are amazing’ and I just give a firm hug to myself. I totally believe if you can’t love yourself then you can’t love others.
Who is Blossom Kochhar? How would you define yourself as a woman today?

I am very conscious about maintaining a healthy balance between my work & my family. I am someone who is concentrated, career-oriented yet I hold my family, friends, and colleagues at the highest pedestal.
