A SALON business in a Black Isle village has been granted permission to build an extension.

Highland Council officers have approved plans for a small extension to the rear of Heavenly Bliss in Avoch.

The business currently has a salon, reception and treatment room at its 11 Rose Street site.

The new extension will enable it to increase the size of the salon room, install a second tratment room and create a dedicated waiting area. There would also be two small storage areas.

Applicants Mr and Mrs N Bremner had originally planned to have the extension run flush with the gable ends of the existing building.

But after an objection by the council’s Historic Environment team, the plans were modified so that the new extension will now be set back by almost a metre back from either side of the gable ends.

“Whilst the building at present does not contribute significantly to the conservation area; it does not detract from the character of the area. However, it was considered that the proposal as submitted would result in the building detracting from the conservation area and this was supported by the views of the Historic Environment Team,” said council officers.

“Following negotiations, amended plans have been submitted which set the extension in from the gable ends of the building by approximately 0.9m at each end.

“This retains the existing traditional symmetrical gable end profile of the building whilst allowing the extension to be read as an addition to the building.

“It is considered that the proposal, as amended, preserves the character of the conservation area and is therefore acceptable,” they added, granting permission.

The new extension will have a lean-to roof with tiles matching the existing building, while the walls will be finished in white cladding to complement the white harl of the original structure.
