After 12 years in business, Charmed Spa and Salon is an established member of the downtown scene, occupying a historic space that is quintessentially Milledgeville.
“As soon as my mom and I saw this building we loved it and knew it would be perfect for our spa,” said owner Dana Wolfe. “She was an entrepreneur who was always looking for an opportunity to start a new business. We both loved Bare Minerals makeup and wanted a shop where local women could discover this wonderful product.”
Wolfe was still in cosmetology school when her late mother, Debi Brett, decided that she wanted to create a spa that catered to people of average income.
“She was a single mother of three and she wanted a place where people could come and get pampered at a reasonable cost, and we have continued to believe in that business model,” said Wolfe.
Brett and Wolfe took extraordinary care in preserving the building’s original pieces of architecture including doors, the exquisite tin ceiling, and the rustic concrete floor of the front part of the salon. The back portion of the salon, where the nail, facials, and massage services are located, is more enclosed, offering a true sense of privacy for those seeking relaxation.
“We continued the historic accents in the back rooms with the beadboard ceiling and restoring the original doors. Women are not the only ones to enjoy our atmosphere — our male customers really enjoy our original and rustic touches,” said Wolfe.
Wolfe said she loves being part of the downtown community and says that the business owners support each other daily.
“We all try to support each other financially — purchasing from one another keeps the downtown culture alive. We also check in with one another just to say hello and to keep up with what’s happening downtown.”
The name of the salon came about from Brett’s love of the television show “Charmed,” which featured three lovely sisters with mystical powers, reminding her of her own female brood.
This Charmed is also in the business of making magic happen — for clients — through their extensive line of salon and spa services.
Hair services are offered to women, men and children — haircuts, coloring, special occasion styles, perms and conditioning treatments. Prices range from $6 to $95, depending on the service.
Skin treatments, performed by licensed esthetician and spa manager Carrolle Mayfield, include facials that focus on anti-aging, anti-redness, clearing, and illuminating-microdermabrasion is also offered. Prices range from $60 to $115, depending on the treatment.
Massage therapy is a popular Charmed service offering relaxation and healing to clients featuring different lengths and methods. Massage therapist and advanced Rossiter coach, Melanie Arnold, is also trained in Rapid Muscular Pain Relief through Neural Reset Therapy, which benefits those with neck and back pain, muscle spasms, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other pain from unknown causes. Prices range from $40 to $100, depending on the length of the massage.
Nail services include a spa manicure and pedicure, express manicure and pedicure, gel polish, and foot detox. Other spa services offered include waxing, special occasion makeup, spray tans, and temporary eyelashes. Prices range from $25 to $60, depending on the type of service.
Spa packages are also offered ranging from $125 to $150 per person receiving the multiple treatments offered.
“We have added a new service, tuxedo rental, for weddings, proms, and special occasions,” said Mayfield. “We are truly a full-service spa and salon — we can handle many components of a wedding — hair, tanning, nails, makeup and tuxes for the men. We love being such a large part of that very special day for our clients-they are our family.”
A family atmosphere is what Wolfe and Mayfield have worked diligently to create for both their staff and clients. They believe treating people like family is the key to keeping gifted employees and retaining clients.
In addition to the salon and spa services, Charmed carries boutique items including pocketbooks, jewelry and candles. Many products carried benefit nonprofit charities and projects.
